The Tactical Performance Lab is a course meant to assess officers’ physical and shooting capabilities objectively. This will NOT be a smoke session, but will have job-specific tests to identify weaknesses, and highlight proficiencies. The class will teach officers how to train with purpose, similar to a professional athlete while focusing on the specific job requirements of a SWAT operator, both shooting and fitness related.
This course will test your physical and shooting capabilities.
Objectives:
The class will teach officers how to train with purpose, similar to a professional athlete, while focusing on the specific job requirements of a SWAT operator. Additionally, the class will teach how to effectively operate firearms with a high degree of speed AND accuracy. We will push the limits and find where you can truly operate the firearm, especially while moving, or after sprinting to a position.

Target Audience:
Officers assigned to a Tactical or Negotiations Team, Tactical/CNT Team Leaders, and Tactical Team Commanders.
Course Overview:
This 40-hour course will combine classroom instruction with group and practical exercises and scenarios. Decision making strategies for the deployment of a tactical team during hostage situations in large commercial structures and the use of technology during hostage rescue operations is the focus of the course. Effective integration with CNT as well as CNT strategies when dealing with hostage takers will be covered and the final scenarios will integrate CNT into the resolution process. Proper mindset and communication and team systems will be core concepts in the course. Topics covered include but are not limited to:
- Dynamic movement and mindset
- Principles of hostage rescue
- Crisis and deliberate rescue planning
- Use of technology during hostage rescue operations
- Interaction with CNT & negotiation strategies
- Multiple force on force evolutions
Student Equipment Requirements:
- Laptop computer is recommended (a PDF will be provided to attendees prior to class start – no printed course manual is handed out, all course documents are on provided thumb drive.
- Note taking material
- All individually issued tactical gear to include radio and communications equipment
- Rifle and pistol with simunition/UTM conversions
- 250 rounds simunition/UTM marking cartridges
- 2 Training NFDD hulls with minimum of 5 training reloads. (contact Wayne@trinitytraining-consulting.com if you do not have these)
- Face/head/neck and wraparound eye protection for force on force drills is MANDATORY! A half mask that can attach to the helmet and in conjunction with wraparound eye protection is recommended.
Optional/Other Equipment:
- 2 inert NFDD training bangs.
- If you are assigned as a breacher, 20 blanks for ballistic breaching shotguns.
- If you are assigned as a sniper on your team, 5 blanks for your bolt gun/AR10. I will place you in the sniper role at times during force on force scenarios.
Instructor Bio:
Wayne DuBois – A retired law enforcement administrator with more than 27 years of law enforcement experience and active SWAT team member for 25 years. During his career, Wayne has responded to, supervised, or been in command of hundreds of SWAT operations, including high-risk warrant service, barricaded suspects, armed suicidal subjects, and multiple hostage rescue operations. During his tenure on SWAT Wayne was the senior Team Leader, CNT Cadre Leader, and also served as a Tactical and Incident Commander. Prior to law enforcement, Wayne served 4 years on active duty as a ground surveillance systems operator in the U.S. Army, including deployment to Southwest Asia for 6 months during Operation Desert Shield/Storm. Wayne received the Medal of Valor for actions taken during a SWAT Operation and was named SWAT Officer of the Year and Police Officer of the Year by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. Wayne serves as a Region Director for a national tactical association, and instructs in their Command Cadre. He is a certified force science analyst and De-Escalation Instructor, and is an instructor in multiple disciplines related to tactics and SWAT. Wayne has also had two published articles on SWAT procedures and operations in a national publication, “The Tactical Edge.” Wayne holds a M.A. in Executive Leadership from Liberty University.

WSTOA’s Basic SWAT course is 5 days and 50 training hours. WSTOA’s Basic SWAT course is 5 days and 50 training hours. The focus of WSTOA’s Basic SWAT course is to provide students with the basic required knowledge for officers and deputies newly assigned to SWAT or Tactical Response Teams. The target audience are individuals who have recently been assigned to SWAT. They will gain an understanding of contemporary theories and concepts used during SWAT operations. Students will participate in classroom and field exercises designed to develop their understanding of the tactics and techniques employed during tactical operations. This course is facilitated by experienced SWAT team leaders and elements leaders currently assigned to Tier 1 and Tier 2 SWAT teams who are experienced in developing newly assigned SWAT officers.

This course addresses the entire spectrum of Night Vision Training and use from the LEO perspective. Classroom instruction will cover the Night Vision System and why all components are critical. In addition, special considerations for LE during SWAT operations as well as recommended policy and practices. Topics covered include but are not limited to; Courtroom testimony, integration of K9, use of robots/drones/pole cams, NVG driving of armored vehicles, LE Identification issues and gear setup, integration with ballistic shields, Defensive Tactics and current case law in regards to LE use of NVG.
Range drills will expose weaknesses and strengths of using night vision for slow clears to hostage rescue and will cover the following: Comparative contrast between current NV and laser systems, Understanding the importance of power as it relates to light and environmental barriers, Zeroing procedures, IR engagements of low and high percentage threat zones, IR to white light transitions for discrimination and identification, How engagement and application under NVG’s varies, shooting around intermediate barriers and barricades.
Training Day 1 will be at the Yakima Police Department Training Room located at 207 S. 3rd Street, Yakima, WA 98901.
Officer Performance Objectives:
Students will be able to understand the importance of every facet of night vision as a system and articulate the appropriate requirements to their chain of command.
They will be able to zero and explain various zeroing techniques to their peers.
Integration into team training and missions regardless of TTP’s.
Officers will have a better understanding of the advantages of tactical police operations conducted within the IR spectrum.
Integration into a team and methods to determine if the team is ready for NVG operations.

NVG COURSE MANDATORY EQUIPMENT
- Rifle / Subgun with 1500 rounds of ammunition. 3 magazines minimum, 5 dummy rounds.
- IR Illuminator/Laser – Laser should be Visible AND IR
- Duty Pistol with 1000 rounds of ammunition, 3 magazines minimum, 5 dummy rounds
- IR/White pistol light or dedicated white light on the handgun
- NVG & Helmet with mount. (Make sure the two interface please)
- Simunition Upper/Bolt for your carbine.
- 250 Rounds marking cartridge for your primary weapon and 50 for your secondary. (If you don’t have pistol conversions, it’s no problem)
- Appropriate duty belt with mag pouches.
- Body armor. With load bearing vest, carrier, chest rig or whatever to carry extra magazines and full-face GAS MASK.
