Command Leadership
 
Course Description:
This course will discuss the essential elements of building and maintaining a professional Special Weapons and Tactics team. Students will take a look at SWAT leadership, team member selection and qualifications, training, and equipment. Further topics will address team mission, capabilities needed to accomplish that mission, team size, the cost of SWAT, and how to market your team. The end objective of this course is to teach team leaders and commanders how to analyze your team’s operational capabilities and readiness and provide strategies to correct any deficiencies.

Instructor:
Mike Villa is an 18-year veteran with the Tukwila Police Department. He served on the regional Valley Special Response Team for 13 years as an entry team member, team leader, and team commander. During his tenure with Tukwila he has instructed in firearms, active shooter, less lethal, chemical munitions, patrol and SWAT tactics, and SWAT leadership courses. Mike is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and currently holds the rank of Assistant Police Chief.
